Gnarly Knots, furniture maker Port Macquarie
Gnarly Knots designs and builds custom furniture for homes that value quality, character, and pieces made to last. Based in Port Macquarie, we create one-off furniture that’s built to suit your space - not a showroom floor.
THE STORY
How it started
Gnarly Knots began with a simple idea - making furniture that feels solid, looks natural, and holds up to real life. What started as a passion for working with timber quickly turned into a workshop built around craftsmanship, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of creating something people use every day.
Over time, the projects grew, the tools got bigger, and the builds became more refined — but the goal stayed the same: make furniture that’s well-proportioned, properly made, and finished with care.
What we care about
We’re not trying to be the biggest. We’re focused on being the kind of furniture maker people recommend because the end result feels right — in the space, in the details, and in how it wears over time.
That means keeping the process personal, being honest about what works best, and making sure the final piece suits both the home and the people living in it.
A straightforward process
Every project starts with a conversation. Sometimes clients know exactly what they want, and sometimes they just have a rough idea — either way is fine. We’ll help shape the design, guide the timber and finish choices, and lock in the details so you know exactly what you’re getting.
From there, the build stays in-house from start to finish. You’ll get clear communication throughout the process, and when it’s ready, we’ll organise delivery and placement so it lands in your space properly.
Made with purpose
Custom furniture is ideal when you want something that fits your space properly, suits your style, and lasts longer than a quick off-the-shelf option. It’s also the best choice when standard sizes don’t work, you’re matching existing design elements, or you want a piece that becomes part of the home.
We build for families, couples, new homes, renovations, and anyone who wants furniture that feels intentional — not temporary.
